Sahil Shipping
Centuries ago, man harnessed the power of the winds and set sail the first ship across unchartered waters to unknown destinations and history was being rewritten. As the centuries rolled by, man with his ingenuity and inventiveness, developed and engineered bigger and better versions of the ship. And this was used for trading between two continents or nations across the seas.

Ships, the masters of waters, had slowly began playing a big role in trade and developement. Today, shipping has gained the status of an industry by itself and has grown by leaps and bounds. And we, at Sahil Shipping, are proud to be a part of this industry.

It all began in 1996 when Sahil Shipping began operations on a modest scale as Non Vessel owner Cargo Carriers (NVOCC). Economic liberalisation coupled with a major thrust in the export-import sector by the government meant that the shipping industry would reap the benefits while offering its excellent service. The need of the hour was an amalgamation of services which would lessen the burden of time, and cost while maintaining safety standards, reducing paper work and making the whole process easy and one-step.

Thus while we provided excellent service in FCL consignments, we also worked hard towards acheiving excellence in lcl consignments and over the past few years we have gained recognisation as one of the leading LCL consolidators in india. But more about that ahead.

Offering complete services in both FCL & LCL cargo has now become a specialisation with us. While FCL cargo movement was a common practice with every service organisation related to shipping, it was the small packages, the less than container load cargo that was a cause of major concern. Thus while more emphasis was laid on FCL cargo, small samples & parcels of exporters were neglected which was causing a dent in the image of the india abroad, as lcl cargo was till then handled in unconfirmed transit times and schedules. This step-motherly treatment to LCL cargo lead to huge losses in terms of business and foreign exchange earnings.

It was of paramount importance to tap this sector and search for ways to improve upon this system and fill the lacunae to make small cargo movement teasible and profitable. This required an scored over indian companies.

We did extensive research in the operations of cargo movement in a few major centres across the globe - such as Singapore, Antwerp, Rotterdam, and gathered valuable know how on their systems.

Their efficient and successful system consisted of consolidating small cargoes and different destinations (in a common sector) in one container and despatching it to a common transhipment port where the cargo was segragated port-wise and sent to final destination. This reduced transit-time while being beneficial to the exporters/importer in particular and the nation as a whole.

Thus began our worldwide search for international partners to join hands in the LCL movement. Our first stop was singapore - which is the hub for the Far East and Australian sector And this was just the begining.

Our tie-up with international partners resulted in faster movement of cargo and bigger business for the indian exporters/importers. While we gained in logistics improvement and techincal knowhow. The success of the singapore sector boosted our confidence and we set our eyes on other major transhipment ports across the globe. Today, we are proud to say that we have international tie-ups in Antwerp & Rotterdam (for Europe, south America, USA), Durban (Africa), Dubai (Middle East), Felixstowe.

Thus our persistence and dedication paid off- we now have worldwide coverage and are today one of the leading LCL consolidators in India having our own nominated warehouses.

The next logical step was to get the MTO licence - which we were given in 1996.

While we were gaining confidence and popular acceptance as LCL Consolidators, there was yet another area this time within the country - that was to be tapped to its fullest potential. Exporters/Importers today are not just located in big towns and cities but also operate from rural and small towns in the interiors, and the government realised the importance of promoting their business on a large scale.

Earlier, exporters who operated their business from far flung areas had to arrange their own transportation of goods from their town to the nearest port or city were the shipping company had its offices. The goods then went through customs, and then waited on the dock before being loaded on board, after which the exporter was issued a B/L. And this consumed a lot of time, which was precious.

It was thus realised that if a single organisation could handle the entire operation, from pick-up at the exporter's location to loading on dock, it would smoothen operation to a large extent. The same system would apply to an importer who has to receive goods from across the globe- all the formalities, custom clearance, paper work and transportation of goods to warehouse would be carried out by the M.T.O. licence holder.

The ministry of surface transport realised the importance of a multi-modal transport system in the country and began work on its documentation and implementation in 1993 And by 1996, we were proud holders of the MTO licence and were all set to expand our operations.

The Multimodal Transport Operator licence reflected the confidence of the Director General of Shipping in our operations and thus gave a fillip to organisation leading to the formation of Conship Lines services, as a sub-division under Sahil shipping.

The advantage of the multi-modal system a part from saving time, is that the exporter receive an instant Bill of Lading and Conship Lines full filled this function by issuing the same on the spot.

Conship Lines also has a commited involement in LCL & FCL cargo movement to & from our counterparts across the globe, we are proud of the worldwide recognisation we have received and the international accolades showered on us for our high degree of competence, profeciency and execellence in service.

Along with a varity of other services, Sahil Shipping also offers daily stuffing and continous carting services for worldwide destination at our various Custom Bonded warehouses.

The feather in our cap was when our team of engineers developed our own software for cargo tracking - though software was available in the open market, which had minimal utility - and we finally beleive that our software is the best in the industry today. It is user freindly and can track down cargo instantly anywere in the world. So when we say we have state-of-the-art technological back-up and on-line coputerised systems, we mean it.

And we look forward to a better, brighter tommorow when we can serve you more efficiently and provide more superior logistic solutions for the smooth running of your business.
