Career Seminars, Celebrity Sessions Among 60+ Expo Events
Hong Kong, Feb 9, 2012 - (ACN Newswire) - The 22nd edition of the HKTDC Education & Careers Expo opened today and continues through 12 February, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). This year, 720 exhibitors from 14 countries and regions are taking part in the event, which features the latest information on education and continual learning, as well as a wealth of opportunities for career advancement and new business. Study in the Chinese Mainland The expo features four theme days this year: Study in the Chinese mainland, Study in Europe, Australian Education Day, and Study in the United States. Today's focus on the mainland is particularly noteworthy, given the recent Ministry of Education announcement of a pilot scheme allowing 63 mainland post-secondary institutions to admit Hong Kong students based on their Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination or Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination results. This year, Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University United InternationalCollege, Hua Qiao University, Jimei University and Jinan University are among the Chinese post-secondary institutions taking part in the expo. Today's mainland focus features an afternoon seminar, "Road to Universities in the Chinese mainland." "Multiple Pathways and Introduction to E-APP," presented by the Hong Kong SAR Government's Education Bureau, also looks at expanding options for Hong Kong students. Super Voice Winner In all, this year's expo programme counts more than 60 events, including seminars, workshops, celebrity-sharing sessions and virtual classrooms. Professional talks and seminars spotlight careers ranging from the performing arts and marketing to the beauty, hospitality and airline industries. Featured speakers include: Mag Lam, winner of Hong Kong's TV singing contest Super Voice 2; Joseph Wong, Visiting Professor, Department of Public & Social Administration, City University of Hong Kong; Dr Sammy Lam, drama scholar; Kearen Pang, multimedia producer; and Nelson Chow, Chairman of the Hong Kong Sommelier Association. In addition, expo workshops spotlight such areas as CV and cover-letter writing, English for business communication, interview skills and personality profiling. Theme Zones This year's expo presents five zones: Careers, Creative Education, Local Education, Outside Hong Kong Education (Australia, Canada, the Chinese mainland, Europe and the United States) and Professional Associations and Bodies. Corporations taking part include Abercrombie & Fitch, Centaline Financial Services Ltd, the Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Company Ltd, Hong Kong Dragon Airlines Ltd, Leader Builder and Manulife (International) Ltd.
