
Samsung Electronics Co. sold more than $1.7 billion
worth of liquid crystal display (LCD) panels in February,
maintaining its global lead in flat-panel sales for 34 months in a
row, a market report showed Thursday (Mar. 27).
According to the report by DisplaySearch, Samsung Electronics?LCD
sales amounted to $1.71 billion last month, accounting for
one-fourth of all LCDs sold in the world.
Korea? LG Display Co. ranked second, with sales worth $1.43
billion, followed by Taiwan? AU Optronics Corp. with $1.38
billion.
Samsung outperformed its rivals both in small- and large-sized LCD
panel sales. The company sold $1.58 billion worth of
10-inch-and-over LCD panels last month, higher than LG Display?
sales of $1.34 billion, the report said.
Industry watchers attribute Samsung? lead to an increase in
production of 52-inch panels at the company? eighth-generation
line in Tangjeong, south of Seoul, as well as increased demand of
full high-definition panels.
